CGI Windows & Doors: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
If you have a CGI window or door with a failed part, we can source and install the replacement. Most CGI hardware, weatherstripping, rollers, locks, and balance systems run $180 – $650 installed in Pasadena, and we keep the most common components on our trucks for same-week service. The way most owners discover a problem is simple: a window that won’t stay open, a door that drags, or a latch that stopped catching. You should not have to guess which part fits your model, and you should not pay a markup for a part that belongs on a different series.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI manufactures several window and door lines, and the part compatibility between them is not universal. The main distinction is between CGI’s Sentinel impact-rated series and their standard architectural lines. Parts are not interchangeable across those lines in most cases, even when the dimensions look close. Before ordering anything, check the label on the inside edge of the sash or the door stile. CGI prints the series name, the product code, and a manufacturing date right on the extrusion. That sticker is the fastest way to confirm what you have.
For impact-rated units, we always recommend OEM hardware first. The certification path for Sentinel products depends on the assembly remaining as tested, and aftermarket parts can void that standing under Miami-Dade or ASTM protocols. For non-impact CGI units, we also work with quality aftermarket equivalents from the brands we already handle alongside KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone components. The decision comes down to whether the part is structural or cosmetic, and whether the unit is still under its manufacturer warranty.

Signs Your CGI Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window drops when you let go. That’s a failed or fatigued spiral balance or block-and-tackle assembly. The old part has lost tension and will eventually let the sash slam down. This is the single most common CGI repair we do in Pasadena’s older neighborhoods.
- Door scrapes the threshold or jamb. The roller or hinge has worn enough to drop the panel out of alignment. You might hear it before you see it. Dragging a door panel across the track wears the weatherstripping fast and makes the problem worse every time you open it.
- Latch or lock won’t fully engage. The strike plate has shifted, or the lock body has collected Sierra Madre dust and grime to the point of seizing. On impact-rated doors, a lock that doesn’t throw the full bolt length is a protection issue, not just a convenience one.
- Condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. This is not a cleaning issue. A failed seal in Pasadena’s temperature swings means the argon or krypton fill has escaped, and the window no longer performs the way it was rated.
- Stiff crank or sliding panel gets harder to move. The operator gear or roller bearings are binding. Forcing the handle past the resistance strips the gear teeth and turns a $90 repair into a $400 replacement.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most CGI part replacements in Pasadena fall into these ranges, parts and labor together:
- Window balance or spiral replacement: $180 – $320 per window
- Sliding door roller or track repair: $220 – $450 per panel
- Lock, latch, or multi-point hardware replacement: $200 – $500 per door
- Weatherstripping or gasket replacement: $150 – $350 per unit
- Insulated glass unit replacement: $650 – $1,400 per sash for CGI impact-rated units
What moves that number is the series, the age of the unit, and whether the part is OEM or aftermarket. Every quote includes the part, the labor, the trip, and a written line-item price before we start. That’s the Graham Stein standard, and the price you see on paper is the price you pay at the end – no footnotes.

You can safely inspect the label, photograph the failed part, and clean the track or hinges with a dry cloth. That’s where we recommend you stop, especially on Sentinel impact units with high-tension balance systems. A spiral balance under load can release fast enough to break a hand. Same caution applies to multi-point lock hardware on impact doors: the spring-loaded mechanisms are under real pressure, and the service parts are not available through retail channels anyway. A wrong guess on a tension spring or a lock body means paying for the correct part twice, because you already bought the wrong one. Call (626) 714-2992 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you what it probably is on the phone, then confirm it in person with a written price.
FAQs

CGI spiral and block-and-tackle balances typically last 8 to 15 years in Pasadena’s climate before losing enough tension to notice. Homes closer to the foothills, where dust works its way into the coils, tend toward the shorter end of that range.
Rollers and hardware can sometimes be cleaned and re-lubricated, but balance assemblies and failed insulated glass units cannot be repaired. We will tell you honestly which one you have. Call (626) 714-2992 and we’ll walk through it on the phone.
A single window balance or door roller replacement typically takes 45 to 90 minutes once the correct part is confirmed. Insulated glass units take longer because we order the replacement sash to your exact CGI specs, then install once it arrives.
We stock the most common CGI balances, rollers, and hardware on our trucks for Pasadena service calls. Less common pieces and impact-rated insulated glass units are ordered directly from CGI or a certified supplier to match your exact label.
