PGT Driveway & Pavers: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
PGT driveway and paver systems in Pasadena typically cost $7,000 – $18,000 for a full paver driveway installation, and we stock the pavers, edge restraints, base materials, and joint sand needed to match your existing layout. Most Pasadena homeowners discover a failed section the hard way: a paver sinks after winter rains, an edge restraint pops loose near the curb, or a low spot holds water against the garage slab. If you’re seeing shifting, settling, or drainage problems, the fix is usually faster and less expensive than a full tear-out when you catch it early.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT manufactures interlocking concrete pavers in three main series lines: the Holland Stone (rectangular, 4″ x 8″), the Aqua-Bric (permeable, with wider joints for water infiltration), and the 3-Piece Cobble system (mixed sizes that interlock for heavier vehicle loads). Each series uses a distinct joint width and edge restraint profile, which matters when you’re replacing a section rather than starting fresh. The paver dimensions are stamped on the underside of each unit, along with the batch code. If your pavers are older and the stamp is worn, measure the face dimensions and joint gap: Holland Stone runs tight 1/8″ joints, while Aqua-Bric runs 3/8″ to 1/2″ joints for permeability. We match OEM PGT pavers whenever possible because color blends like Sierra Blend and Harvest Gold vary noticeably between production runs, and a mismatched section is visible from the street. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist, but we only recommend them for whole-driveway replacements, never spot repairs.

Signs Your PGT Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Paver settling or sinking in a low spot. This usually means the compacted base underneath has eroded or wasn’t thick enough. In Pasadena’s clay-heavy soil, winter rains saturate the ground and create soft pockets under the sand bedding layer.
- Edge restraints pulling away at the driveway apron. Vehicle tires pushing against the outer row of pavers slowly walk them outward. Once the plastic or aluminum edging flexes, the entire field starts to loosen.
- Standing water pooling against the garage door. PGT pavers are set with a slight slope away from the structure. When the pitch flattens out, water backs up and can seep into the garage slab or under the paver bed.
- Joint sand washing out after each rain. If you see sand running toward the curb every time it rains, the joints are no longer locking the pavers together. Left alone, the pavers start grinding against each other and chipping.
- Visible cracks or spalling on individual pavers. PGT pavers are rated for vehicle traffic, but a dropped tool or a shifted sub-base can crack a unit. One cracked paver is easy to replace; a pattern of cracks means the base underneath has failed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full PGT paver driveway installation in Pasadena runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver series, and how much excavation the existing site needs. Spot repairs on a section of failing pavers typically run less, but the exact number depends on how deep we have to dig to fix the base. Every quote includes the pavers, compacted base material, joint sand, edge restraints, and labor, and we put the line-item price in writing before any work starts. The price you see on paper is the price you pay at the end – no footnotes.
For repairs, we carry new PGT pavers, bedding sand, joint sand, and edge restraints on our trucks, so most patch jobs in Pasadena are done in a single visit. We’ll match your existing color blend as closely as the current production run allows and tell you honestly if a perfect match isn’t possible before we start.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: note where water pools after a rain, press on any visibly sunken pavers to see how much they move, and check whether the edge restraints are still anchored. What you shouldn’t do is pull up a section of pavers without knowing what’s underneath. Pasadena’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and a DIY repair that skips base compaction or drainage correction will settle again within a season. If the pavers have shifted near a gas line, water main, or the garage foundation, that’s a job for a trained crew. We’re happy to look at the problem and tell you whether it’s a one-day fix or something bigger. Call (626) 714-2992.
FAQs

PGT pavers themselves typically last 30 – 40 years, but the base underneath often needs attention every 15 – 20 years in Pasadena’s clay soil. Proper drainage and edge restraints are what determine whether your driveway still looks right at year 20.
Yes, in most cases we can lift the affected pavers, re-compact the base, and reset the section without replacing the whole driveway. Call (626) 714-2992 for an exact quote – estimates are free.
Most single-section repairs are done in one day, including re-compacting the base and re-sanding the joints. A full driveway replacement usually takes 3 – 5 working days, depending on access and excavation.
We keep common PGT paver sizes and colors on hand for spot repairs, along with edge restraints and joint sand. If your blend is from an older production run, we’ll order the closest current match and show you the color difference before installation.
